Regional Revitalization based on bamboo industry in Fuxing District, Taoyuan

The USR team of College of Engineering, NCU was authorized by Taoyuan City Government to submit a proposal to National Development Council, on the topic of Regional Revitalization of Fuxing District, with the bamboo industry as the core.

About 12,000 people lives in 350.8km2, which makes Fuxing District the largest but least populated area in Taoyuan City. The District is mountainous, having difficulties in transportation and lack of public service. Moreover, it also acts as catchment reserve for Shihmen Reservoir and Aboriginal Reserve, both resulting in extra restrictions on land use, and put further limitation on industrial development. The area is also dominated by primary agricultural industries, with few employment opportunities and makes living extra difficult, resulting in a serious exodus of youth generation.

The USR team of College of Engineering, NCU was authorized by Taoyuan City Government to submit a proposal to National Development Council, on the topic of Regional Revitalization of Fuxing District, with the bamboo industry as the core. 

By cooperating with local team (local company in bamboo industry, association of bamboo industry, and Dept. of Architecture, Ming-Chuan University), “Development Program for Sustainable Bamboo Industry” was formed, with 4 main goals:
1.    Optimization of bamboo harvesting operation process and improvement of machinery
2.    Promote the training of technical personnel in local bamboo industry
3.    Empower related personnel, aimed for sustainable bamboo industry
4.    Promote the innovation and transformation of bamboo construction

By cultivating local personnel via workshops (with contents planned based on local needs) and cooperating with student projects, NCU USR team aims for vitalize bamboo-related economy and create local employment opportunities, while promoting local culture.
