專案摘要/目標
An old banyan tree near the Tai Chi bronze sculpture at National Central University was infected by fungus in June, 2023. The university's Office of General Affairs performed an "arboreal surgery" to remove decayed tissue and installed support structures to ensure the tree's survival. With this treatment, they hope to preserve the tree and contribute to the campus’s sustainable ecosystem. This is the university’s second tree surgery, following a successful procedure in 2013. Educational signage was also installed to raise awareness about tree healthcare.
專案成果
Back in 2013, NCU performed tree surgery for the first time on an old banyan tree located near the College of Earth Sciences. The tree recovered well after surgery, prompting the university to invest in surgical treatment for this banyan tree located next to the Tai Chi bronze sculpture, contributing to the sustainability of the campus ecological environment. At the same time, the Offices of General Affairs Office has set up explanatory boards at the construction site detailing the process of controlling the Ganoderma fungus, guiding faculty, staff, students, and the public to understand the treatment process. Through the healing process, NCU aim to raise awareness that trees also need health care, and that early detection and prevention are essential for maintaining the safety of the campus public environment.
