NCU helps Taoyuan City receive 1st "Social Business City" certification in Asia

After 3 years of hard work, Taoyuan City finally obtained the certification of "Social Business City" in 2022, becoming the 3rd city with abovementioned title in the world, and the 1st in Asia. The "Social Business City, Inauguration Ceremony and International Forum, 2022” was jointly organized and hold by Taoyuan City Government and National Central University, on Aug/14, 2022, at the Teaching and Research Building, NCU.

Chien-Wen Shen, the Director of Yunus Social Business Centre of NCU, stated that "Social Business City Project" is an initiative of ARCO and Yunus Social Business Centre of the University of Florence, with the goal of promoting development of a social-enterprise-friendly ecosystem in cities around the world.

Jen-Inn Chyi, the VP of NCU stated that NCU is honored to work with Taoyuan City as a role of bridge and mentor in its journey to Social Business City. For many years, NCU have been actively cultivating a humanistic culture among our students, and using this as a motivation to take an active role in caring for social issues and helping to solve social problems. For example, through 5 USR programs (such as “Ecology, Living, and Economy of Taoyuan Coast – Facilitating the Sustainable Development of Taoyuan’s Coastal Environment and Culture”, etc.), NCU linked schools, governmental Offices, social business and local communities to deepen local identity and social impact.

Multiple international guests shared their thoughts via forum, including Enrico Testi, the Founder of "Social Business City Project"; Miguel García, the Director of "Social Business City Alliance, Barcelona, Spain”; and Lorenzo Pieraccini, Founder of Social Business “Better Social”, and Director Chen Guan-Ying, Taoyuan Youth Affairs Bureau as host of forum. Multiple guests from local industrial, governmental and academia field and representatives from local social business also gave talks to share their thoughts on how to build a sustainable ecosystem for social business. Through dialogue between industry, government and academia, more people can understand the current situation and opportunities of social business development in Taiwan, and provide more possibilities for social business and social innovation.
