As the first university in Taiwan with "sustainable development" as overall goal of teaching and research, NCU is actively responding to global Net Zero Emissions (NZE) consensus on sustainability, and promoting carbon reduction programs on campus subsequently. At the "Sustainability and Decarbonization Technology" forum hold on Feb/16, 2022, President Jing-Yang Jou led a group of executives to announce the goal of achieving 50% carbon neutrality on campus by 2030, and 100% by 2050.

NCU has been managing direct and indirect emissions on campus by referring to the 3 scopes defined in Greenhouse Gas Protocol, while promoting decarbonization project on campus, which aims to achieve 50% of carbon neutrality on campus by 2030, and 100% by 2050.

NCU will promote carbon neutral on campus under “voluntary inventory” framework, and will seek an objective, impartial 3rd party entity to verify the result of deduction. The methodology of carbon deduction will be published in Annual NCU USR Report, which enables the public to review result of carbon neutrality year by year.

At the "Sustainability and Decarbonization Technology" forum, Deans of College of Management, Earth Science, Engineering and Electrical Engineering & Computer Science presented achievements on ESG and social impact, clean energy, net-zero emissions, circular economy and energy efficiency, etc. NCU also invited influential representatives from industry, government, and academia to share their views on the challenges of global net-zero trends, hoping to accelerate decarbonization actions to meet the wave of green economy.
