Department of Mechanical Engineering launches “Lights On: Energy Take-Away” to promote renewable energy

Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, NCU hold opening ceremony of “Lights On: Energy Take-Away” on Mar/3, 2021. The facility was reconverted from a lab in aforementioned Department, which was capable of integrating solar and wind energy, developing energy operating systems, plug-and-play and energy interconnection technologies, and build renewable energy microgrid that can be applied to general community and even emergency power supply for rural area after disasters. Moreover, it also offered the public to take a closer look on operation process of solar power, small wind turbines, fuel cells, microgrids, and energy management systems, and get to know renewable energy.

By the support of “Clean Energy System Integration and Personnel Training Project” funded by Ministry of Education, “Lights On: Energy Take-Away” integrated renewable energy and energy storage equipment through operation system and manage electricity supply, to improve electricity efficiency for the purpose of energy saving. Public may make an appointment for a tour, to have first-hand experience on user-friendly energy systems for residential electricity. Meanwhile, the facility also served as an demonstration site for local elementary and middle schools and the public on energy education issues, and will train docents for tour in near future.

“Lights On: Energy Take-Away” is scheduled to open in mid-May, 2021. Tours by appointment will be available, and there will be staff to guide and explain the facility.
