NCU received National Sustainable Development Award, 2022

With "sustainable development" as core value, NCU won National Sustainable Development Award (education category), 2022 hold by Executive Yuan. The award ceremony was hold on Dec/14, 2022, at International Conference Center of National Taiwan University Hospital, and the award was presented by Chen-Chang Su, the President of Executive Yuan, and Chairman of National Council for Sustainable Development. Vice President Jen-Inn Chyi represented NCU to receive the award.

 

Since 1990, when academician Zhao-Han Liu took over as President, NCU has been the first to introduce the concept of "sustainability" to universities in Taiwan, which has now reached its 30th anniversary. As a comprehensive university in Taoyuan that implements social innovation, innovative research, and interdisciplinary teaching, NCU has established the guidelines of "Humanistic Care and Sustainable Development" in its 2021-2025 overall development plan, and is actively implementing the mission of "leading the action of social responsibility through sustainable development".

 

In 2022, the “Office of Social Responsibility” of NCU changed title into “Office of Sustainable Development and Social Responsibility”. By connecting university specialties and neighborhood thru USR Projects continuously, NCU thrived to accomplish UN SDGs such as social equity, economic development, and environmental balance. With "building a sustainable ecosystem and fulfilling university social responsibility" as the main strategy, NCU aimed to draw a  sustainable blueprint that integrates ecology, life and production.

 

In response to international consensus on net-zero emissions, NCU hold a forum under the title of "Sustainability and Decarbonization Technology" on Feb/16, 2022, in which President Jing-Yang Jou announced "NCU Campus Carbon Neutral Advocacy" with a group of NCU executives to declare the goal of achieving 50% of carbon neutrality on campus by 2030, and 100% by 2050. NCU has established a solid foundation for inventory, management, and disclosure of direct and indirect emissions on NCU campus by referring to the standards defined in Greenhouse Gas Protocol. 

 

NCU will continue to develop cross-disciplinary courses, curricula and industry-academia collaboration projects related to sustainability, to promote sustainable, decarbonized life style and talent cultivation on campus.
